Vodafone Germany, last week announced that the company has secured a total of 110 MHz of spectrum across four bands for a total cost of 2.1 billion euros. The acquisition which was made during the Federal Network Agency’s auction saw Vodafone Germany acquiring rights to 2 x 10 MHz in the 700 MHz band; 2 x 10 MHz in the 900 MHz band; 20 MHz in the 1.5 GHz band; and 2 x 25 MHz in the 1.8GHz band.
The auctions of new blocks of radio frequencies spectrum by the Federal Network Agency in Germany witnessed a total of 5.08 billion euros worth of bids from Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica Deutschland and Vodafone. Of the 5.08 billion euros, Deutsche Telekom spent a sum of 1.8 billion while Telefonica Deutschland spent 1.2 billion.
According to Vodafone, the spectrum acquired will enhance Vodafone Germany’s 4G network, increasing data traffic capacity and speed on 4G while improving voice quality on GSM services.
